Haiti | August 2026 — The Haiti Food Systems Alliance (HFSA) successfully concluded its inaugural General Assembly, bringing together members and partners from across Haiti for three days of dialogue, collaboration, and strategic planning to strengthen the country’s food systems.
As the Alliance’s first official General Assembly, the gathering marked a defining milestone in HFSA’s evolution from an informal collaboration to a formalized alliance rooted in Haitian leadership. More than a governance meeting, the Assembly served as a platform to strengthen partnerships, validate a shared vision, and chart a collective path forward for transforming Haiti’s food systems.
Guided by the convening framework: “Celebrate, Validate, Act”, members reflected on the Alliance’s journey, reviewed and validated its governance and strategic priorities, and officially endorsed HFSA’s Theory of Change, establishing a shared roadmap for collective action. The Theory of Change articulates the Alliance’s long-term vision of building a complete farm-to-fork ecosystem in Haiti; one that connects research, capacity strengthening, agricultural production, financing, market systems, institutional feeding, and nutrition to create resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems. Through meaningful dialogue, collaborative planning, and knowledge exchange, participants reaffirmed their commitment to locally led solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen communities, and increase access to nutritious food across the country.
Today, HFSA brings together 16 member organizations working across the food systems landscape. Collectively, Alliance members have trained more than 60,000 farmers, supported over 300 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), facilitated the commercialization of more than US$11 million in agricultural products to formal markets, deployed over US$2.3 million in financing for farmers and agribusinesses, and contributed to the distribution of more than 12.1 million nutritious meals across Haiti. These achievements demonstrate the power of coordinated action and the collective impact that is possible when Haitian organizations work together toward a common vision.
Throughout the Assembly, members participated in plenary sessions, strategic discussions, collaborative workshops, and networking opportunities that reinforced the value of collective action. The event showcased the diverse expertise of HFSA’s member organizations, whose work spans agricultural research, capacity strengthening, production, nutrition, institutional feeding, market systems development, finance, and food security.
Discussions throughout the Assembly reinforced the Alliance’s commitment to strengthening every link of Haiti’s food system—from supporting farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs to expanding market opportunities, increasing access to finance, promoting innovation and knowledge sharing, and connecting locally produced food with institutional feeding programs.
As HFSA enters this new chapter, the Alliance will continue to expand its membership, strengthen strategic partnerships, mobilize resources, and foster knowledge sharing to scale locally led solutions that improve food security, create economic opportunities, and build a more resilient and sustainable food system for Haiti.
